 | Design of Aluminium Profiles
Extrusion is an ideal method for manufacturing profiles of all kinds. The low working temperature of aluminium, 500 ºC, makes it possible to manufacture a multitude of profile shapes. Compared with other methods, extrusion is an economical and easy way of making sections. Thanks to the low die cost, it is feasible to extrude even relatively small production runs. The weight of the profile and that of the end product can be decreased by using the material only where needed by strength requirements - minimum amount of material for maximum strength. This also adds to the appearance of the product.
Important facts to be considered:
- the section must be mechanically strong enough
- the dimensions and tolerances must be within required limits
- the minimum wall thickness of the section is 1.0 mm
- the longest sections are 14 m, though the most common delivery lengths vary between 4 m and 6 m
- the maximum extrusion billet weight of 140 kg limits the maximum delivery lengths of heavy profiles
- the section weight varies between 0.05 and 35 kg/m
- the largest diameter of the circumscribing circle is:
1. Solid sections 320 mm
2. Semi-hollow sections 200 mm
3. Hollow sections 250 mm
