Surface Treatments

When colour matters and the natural hue of aluminium is not appropriate, aluminium can be coloured by anodising or powder coating. Anodising gives the aluminium a metallic, softly glowing surface in colours such as grey with a shine of silver, golden shades of yellow, red, warm bronze and black tones. Powder coating as an option offers a wider colour spectrum than anodising. Powder coatings are available in various degrees of gloss and a large choice of hues, including all the RAL colours. Even wider spectrum of coatings is possible with our DECORAL decorative coating method.

Anodising

Anodised surfaces are highly resistant to abrasion and corrosion. Metal oxides may be added to the anodic finish to reflect light with a dim metallic lustre. In addition to the natural colour of aluminium, this technique allows the production of various UV-resistant shades of red, yellow and bronze, as well as black. The anodising layer is so thin that it does not have to be included in dimensions or stripped off before the aluminium is reused. Anodising is the friendliest surface finish from the environmental point of view. Anodised aluminium is suitable for applications such as facades, window and door structures, panels, railings, transport equipment, flagpoles and masts, indoor and outdoor furniture, instruments, equipment and accessories.

Powder coating

Powder coating of aluminium is a carefully controlled and environmentally safe process, which fulfills all relevant EU standards. To produce a permanent and durable coating, the aluminium is carefully pretreated. The surface is coated with an even layer of powder that melts in the thermal treatment and adheres permanently without any solvents. The coated surface is resilient and resistant to strong UV-light, as well as to abrupt temperature variations. Powder-coated aluminium is well suited for use in facades, window and door structures, interior and outdoor decoration and furnishings, ceilings and panels. The maximum delivery length is 8 metres. For more detailed information about range of colours and other technical information please read our brochure Surface Treatment of Aluminium.

DECORAL coating method

The DECORAL surface treatment was developed for coating aluminium sections and sheets. Using this method, products can be coated with patterns imitating wood, stone or almost any other pattern required. The treatment is based on powder coating and is suitable for outdoor use due to its weather and UV-resistance. The same range of machining techniques are available as with traditional powder coating. For outdoor use DECORAL needs no maintenance and dirt can be washed off. DECORAL coating can also be recycled.
